'
The God particle,' you may remember was a nickname given to a subatomic particle called the ‘Higgs boson’, named after the man who first suggested it may exist. It was discovered in 2012. Stephen Hawking even lost a $100 bet that they wouldn’t discover it!
Different subatomic particles give matter their unique properties. For the dummies among us ‘subatomic’ simply means ‘smaller than and occurring within an atom.’ So we are dealing with something very very very tiny!
It is ironic that the man who first suggested the ‘Higgs boson’ existence is an atheist and understandably was not impressed that his scientific pride and joy should be nicknamed ‘the God particle.’ God has an amazing habit when man gets filled with scientific pride of just saying, “Hello guys - I am still here, not gone away - stop playing with atoms and prepare to meet me.”
One of the least understood aspects of matter is mass. Science has never reached a conclusion as to why some particles seem mass-less, like photons and others are “massive.” The proposal of Higgs was that there is a basic particle - the Higgs boson, which effects mass. Confirmation of the Higgs boson was deemed monumental in physics and a step closer ‘they say’ to what started the whole atom business anyway. Why is it always ‘what’ started and not ‘who?’ Answer - we don’t want to bump into the ‘who’ because they might not be pleased with how we are living! ‘What’ started it all is a much more cosy mode of thought.” But it has never yielded an answer!
What is fascinating in this whole business is how they split atoms. Something so minute needs something massive to exert the forces necessary. In fact the Hadron Collider is the biggest machine in the world made by man. On 12 April 2018 it initiated the
collision of proton beams for the first time this year so Hadron is still healthy and well.
So they’ve discovered the ‘God particle’ but the question still remains, who created this amazing subatomic particle? It’s the same sort of question that many atheists will ask a Christian, “If an intelligent universe requires an intelligent designer then the intelligent designer demands an intelligent creator too.” Who made God in otherwords? Maybe take the intelligent out and replace it with
powerful. If a powerful universe demands a powerful creator, who created the power in the first place? But why should there be a first? Why do we assume that everything must have a beginning? Because that is all we know experientially. Yet there is one book that tells us something entirely different. The Bible. It goes outside time...
Think about it, for ‘time’ to have a beginning there must be something outside time that winds up the clock in the first place. (ie. started the earth rotating and the going round the sun) Similarly as I ask who created the Higgs particle you very quickly begin to loose your mind in an eternal sequence of ‘ who created the creator of the Higgs particle? - dare I say a chicken and egg scenario.
Maybe a better question is what sort of particles are we? If we are all nothing more than subatomic atoms playing with other subatomic atoms then at what point did some subatomic atoms have the ability to ‘love’ ‘to laugh’ ‘to dream’ and to procreate with other subatomic particles? If we are just subatomic atoms what does it matter if we walk out in front of other subatomic atoms that just happen to have collided into the shape of a bus? And why is it that we go to the bother of giving the subatomic atoms of Stephen Hawking a place in Westminster Abbey? The truth is we all need to wake up and stop deluding ourselves to who we really are and not what we really are.
You can swallow the delusion if you want but sorry I come form the town where they make the buses!
It took thousands of men (not monkeys) to build the Hadron Collider, to operate it, to draw conclusions from it and to feel disappointed when it broke down. The bible calls it the soul. The personality and consciousness of morality that a tree doesnt have.
The ability to name things (Have you seen your dog name it’s pups) Have you ever seen a monkey write it’s name and send an email across the enclosure saying “send me more bananas?”
You can split an atom but remember the Hadron collider cannot touch the soul for it is invisible. Spiritual realities are like the wind, you know they are there and you can see the effects but you cannot see the soul or spirit. Jesus used the wind as an illustration of the Spirit. He said we must be born again! Not physically but spiritually. Why? Because God says our sin, the wrong things we do must be accounted for? The hadron Collider cannot generate the power needed to make someone a christian. Neither can it generate the power to deliver a drug addict from addiction. This takes more than a God particle it takes the power of God. This is resurrection, death splitting, almighty Devil disturbing God given power. Christ died for our sins and rose again the third day.
Christ died that our soul may be saved and the Almighty God is willing to forgive your sins today if you repent but the one who made the atom is the one who will gather the dust of our bodies in death and raise us up to stand before Him as our judge. Nothing will escape his gaze or attention, the beam of God’s righteous judgement will penetrate to the subatomic detail of our hearts and minds so that we will be left without answer and without hope!
“Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6
