1.TheRE IS ONE GODThe Old Testament was written in Hebrew hundreds of years before English or Arabic and tells us repeatedly there is ‘one' God. ‘I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me,’ Isaiah 45:5.
The New Testament written in Koine Greek states clearly, ‘There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus who gave Himself a ransom for all,’ 1 Timothy 2:5. The bible also tells us God is not like us and can never therefore be understood alone by sinful human logic. This is the teaching of Psalm 50, "These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes." God is eternal yet we cannot explain this by human logic. We accept it by faith in His Word because God's word is true. How can God have no beginning? Because HE is God. God appeared in a bush to Moses because HE is God. It is not for us to question anything about God but rather repent before Him and reverence Him. The fact that God is three persons, distinct yet equal is not for us to question because our finite minds cannot understand it fully. We accept it gratefully knowing that "son" does not always refer to a biologically conceived son, Eg. Jesus Christ was the 'son of David' by descent not birth. The Bible claims God never changes, Malachi 3:6. which means God’s message of salvation never changes, ‘God our Saviour who will have all men to be saved.’ 1 Timothy 2:4. All men need to be saved because God says ‘all have sinned,’ Romans 3:23. and ‘all the world may become guilty before God,’ Romans 3:19. Sin is a shameful thing in God’s eyes and will keep us out of Paradise unless ALL our sins are cleansed. If God allowed us into Heaven with one sin He is not Holy. God decides what sin is not us. The only mediator between God and sinful men is Jesus Christ who is sinless and paid for our sins so that we could be made righteous by God and accepted into Heaven when we die. When God saves us He dwells in us by His Spirit and this gives us new desires so that we do not want to sin anymore. |
