4.JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD

In John 10:36. Jesus said, ‘Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?’  This is one of many references in the bible to Jesus as the Son of God.  ‘Son’  does not mean a biological son born physically and it does not mean God had a mother. This would be impossible because God is eternal. But the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are distinct persons yet equal. Jesus said in John 8:58  “before Abraham was I Am," This means Jesus was more than just a prophet. He was claiming existence before Bethlehem,  before the religion of Moses, Abraham or any other belief system. God the Father testified that Jesus was His Son in Matt. 3:17,  ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ On the cross Jesus prayed to His Father, ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do.’ God’s message is consistant throughout the Scriptures, ‘He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.’ 1 John 5:12. If we are born again we become ‘sons of God’ not by physical birth but spiritual relationship. We were sons of Adam because of our sinful nature, Jesus Christ is the Son of God by virtue of His eternally divine nature, He is God. We have no right to question why God exists in three persons any more than we have a right to ask who created God?  He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit because He is God. Perhaps one of the most powerful witness statements that Jesus is the Son of God is from the Demons themselves, "And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down beforehim, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God." Mark 3:11
Some point out that there are very few references where Jesus actually said "I am the Son of God" But what does that prove? If I went into London tomorrow and shouted on the street "I am the Son of God," it would mean nothing. However if I went to the local hospital and raised a man back to life who had been dead four days my claims would begin to be taken seriously. Jesus proved who He was not only by what He said but what He did.
