Jesus Christ
spoke seven times when He died on the cross for our sins. The sixth time He said,
“It is finished,”John 19 verse 30.
Everyone understands when something is finished, there is nothing more to do. When Jesus Christ said ‘it is finished,’ He was telling the world His suffering for all our sins was now complete, there is nothing more for us to do but accept the gift of eternal life,
‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.’ Ephesians 2 verses 8-9.
Religion will tell you to trust in your good works in order to be Heaven, but that is a lie. ‘It is finished,’ is God’s guarantee that trusting in Jesus Christ alone and what He has done is the only way to Heaven.
Is it enough?
Some people refuse to accept the death of Jesus Christ as a sufficient payment for their sins. They think it’s too good to be true because it’s free. But would a drowning man refuse a lifebelt because he has nothing to pay? No, he grabs it, grateful that there was one who purchased and provided it. When Jesus Christ said ‘it is finished,’ He died, and paid the price so that God can offer freely to every sinner the forgiveness of sins. Jesus Christ willingly offered Himself on the cross and His blood cleanses us from all sin. We have nothing to offer God because everything we do is spoiled by sin. We are sinners but Jesus Christ is sinless therefore His payment was accepted by God as sufficient.
‘Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,’ 1 Peter 3 verse 18.
But are you finished with sin?
Many today don’t want to give up the pleasures, the popularity and even the fame sin promises. The love of money, drugs and alcohol has broken many lives but worst of all it drags people into eternity in their sins and then it is too late to be saved. Jesus Christ said,
“if you die in your sins where I go you cannot come,” (John 8 verse 21.)
He was teaching sinners they cannot be in Heaven in their sins. Don’t make the mistake of thinking everything will be all right in the end and God will let you into Heaven. There is NO middle ground, God says you will be in Heaven if you are saved or Hell if you die in your sins.
What must I do to be saved?
On the third day, God raised His Son from the dead - proving that God was satisfied with the work that Jesus Christ finished. God accepted His death as a once and for all payment for your sins, but you must personally trust in Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness of sins. God invites you to come just as you are and depend on Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Why wait any longer when ‘it is finished?’ Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy the blessings of salvation, a home in Heaven and the joy of eternal life.
‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,’ Acts 16 verse 31.
